DUTIES: Responsible for janitorial duties, daily maintenance and seasonal projects throughout the County Park system. Main responsibilities will include cleaning, sanitizing and collecting trash at park bathroom facilities. The position would regularly supervise a crew of 1-2 inmates (if inmates are available) and may occasionally lead co-workers in project-oriented tasks, as directed by Parks Administration. Park maintenance projects would include, but are not limited to: tree maintenance, parking lot and playground maintenance, and general construction / routine facility maintenance projects during the off-season. The position will assist with set-up and take-down tasks for special events, tourism sporting events and recreation programs as needed. As needed, the position will also be involved in snow removal, as well as operating a skid steer and other required tasks.
REQUIREMENTS: Must work within a team concept and be able to effectively supervise a crew of 1-2 inmates from Wicomico County or the State Correctional work program. Must be able to deal with the public in a professional manner, problem solve, troubleshoot and understand and execute instructions. Person should possess the ability and experience to operate a 1-ton crew cab pick-up while towing a landscape style trailer. Will need to be able to work in all kinds of weather. Position is an essential position that requires 24/7 availability for weather events as needed in the County. Must pass Department of Corrections training and orientation requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver’s license. CPR and First Aid certification required within six (6) months. NIMS Emergency Certification required within three (3) months.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 1 year experience in related field demonstrating success with supervision and equipment operations.
