Manages daily administrative operations for the Building Permits and Inspections Division within the Department of Planning, Zoning, and Community Development. The position is responsible for performing advanced secretarial duties including assisting with financial activities, supervising clerical personnel, and assisting with the permit review process. Position requires attending some evening meetings that include taking and transcribing minutes, receive the public, and respond to inquiries. Other duties, include, but are not limited to the following activities:
• Receive the public and answer questions, respond to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons;
• Develop complex correspondence, reports, minutes, lists, forms, tables and memorandums using MS Office Suite and other database programs;
• Issue and maintain records for residential and commercial building permits and fees;
• Collect fees, maintain records and prepare deposits for building and plumbing permits, fire safety, plan/plat reviews, floodplain permits, mobile home park and junkyard/scrapyard licenses, contract documents and construction standards;
• Staff boards and commissions, which requires attending some evening meetings;
• Provide backup to Electrical Division and other functions of the Department; and
• Supervise and mentor department assistant/clerical personnel.
