Under the supervision of the Chief Building Inspector, the Building Inspector is responsible for ensuring new construction, renovation, and additions for the building and structures are constructed to applicable Wicomico County Codes (e.g. International Code Council’s Building, Energy, and Residential Codes). This position performs plan reviews, inspections of footers, foundations, framing, and energy compliance. This position also issues building code violations and certificates of occupancy in addition to the following:
- Conducting plan reviews and inspections of agricultural, commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable County, State, and Federal Codes
- Issuance of residential and commercial certificates of occupancy permits
- Inspection of mobile home parks for compliance with applicable building codes
- Responding to complaints about unauthorized building code violations
- Attending Building Official Association meetings, as well as relevant seminars, meetings, and training
- Assisting the County’s Department of Emergency Services with damage assessments
- Other job-related tasks and opportunities as assigned
