The Roads Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for accurately diagnosing and correcting minor and major malfunctions of motor vehicles and motor equipment including major mechanical repairs and extensive overhauls of all types of major automobiles components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.
Duties:
- Service, change oil, lube trucks and heavy equipment;
- Perform DOT safety inspections on trucks. Repair items to meet DOT standards;
- Repair minor collision damage, bodywork;
- Weld and fabricate steel, iron and metals;
- Respond to breakdowns in the field and repair;
- Operate heavy equipment for tests or service;
- Operate fuel truck in absence of other trucks, fueling of equipment as needed;
- Repair shorts, problems in electrical wiring on vehicles;
- Service, refuel and repair mowers daily during mowing season;
- Service, refuel and repair cable ferries as needed;
- Mount and dismount, fix flat tires.
- Maintain inventory of tires;
- Install blades on snowplows and assist with snow and ice removal – spreading of de-icing materials; and
- Perform related work as required.
